Rolando Blanco

Blanco is my co-defendant whom like me, was sentenced to 40 yrs and several years ago, through the Interstate Compact Transfer went to serve his time in the state of Florida. HE IS CURRENTLY HELD AT MAYO CORR. INSTITUTION in Mayo, Florida and will remain there until such a time that Alabama released him.

The state of Florida claims that NO papers have been received. It is worth noting that like me, Blanco was sentenced under a law that required to serve 5 years mandatory, however, as of March 28, 2002, he has served 16 years plus. In other words, unless we do something, Blanco is forever to be found a slave and a hostage of Alabama, held at a sister state (Florida).

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. If you would write
a letter of encouragement. He is kinda depressed.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Mayo Correctional Institution, Florida:

I am writing to request information on the following inmate in your
facility:

                 Rolando Blanco
                 #195866 #A-3114-L
                 Mayo Corr. Inst.
                 P.O.Box 448
                 Mayo, FL 32066-0448

It is my understanding that Mr. Blanco was granted parole on February 5, 2002.  However, Mr. Blanco has not been released yet.  He was transferred through the Interstate Compact Transfer from the State of Alabama.  Under the State of Alabama, his AIS number is #144344.  Mr. Blanco was given a mandatory 5 year sentence and so far, as of March 28, 2002, Mr. Blanco has served 16 years in prison.

I am told that the State of Florida is waiting for the paperwork from Alabama before he can be released.  WHAT IS THE HOLD UP?  Please, his family is desperate to find out when they can expect justice for this man since he has already been granted parole and is still being held in prison.  Who do we call to get this matter taken care of?  What can you do to expedite the paperwork?

Respectfully,
Sherry Swiney

Mayo Correctional Institution, Florida Personnel:

Have recently learned of the troubling situation of Rolando Blanco, #195866 Florida' DOC number, #144344 Alabama's DOC number.  As a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Florida, am truly, deeply troubled that with a 5 year sentence, and having already served 16 years, this man has not been released.  Yet, he  was granted parole on February 5, 2002.

What paperwork could your facility possibly waiting on?  This is April 9, 2002.  Hopefully, this situation will be resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to this letter.

Sincerely,
Barbara Bell

Ms. Swiney,
Thank you for your interest in I/M Blanco.  I received your correspondence yesterday and I want to assure you that I have been checking into this matter since I was notified by I/M Blanco that his lawyer had informed him that he was to be paroled.  What I have found out is that Alabama has not completed the paperwork, in that the parole certificate has not been signed. Since I am not familiar with the parole system in Alabama, I assume no one is paroled until the parole certificate is signed by either the Governor or the Parole Commissioner.  We have not been notified by Alabama that he is to be paroled and until that time we can not release him.  I was given this number as a contact in Alabama and would like to share it with you in the event that you require further updates, Loretta Thomas (334) 242-8726.  If I can be of any further help, please advise.

Sincerely,
Holly Hart Hamlin
Classification Officer

OK everyone here is the scoop!  Alabama is the one holding this up for no "apparent" reason.  NOW! I need everyone to pick up the telephone and call Loretta Thomas (334) 242-8726 and tell her to do the PAPERWORK for this man so he can come home.  They've been sitting on it since February!!!!!  As always, if the cost of this call is more than your pocketbook can handle, call anyway and I will be most happy to reimburse you pronto!!!  I don't care where you are calling from, whether it is California, Europe, Canada, or Alabama...just please call.  16 years on a 5 year sentence after he's already been granted parole in February 2002!  Come on Alabama, you can do far better than this.... Everyone, please start calling now...let them get so sick of our calls that they get off their duffs and do their jobs!  Don't forget, that's what we are paying them to do with ou tax dollars.

Thanks!  And pass this one on, okay?

Blessings,
Sherry
